Our Healthy Obsession - Why a Connected Bioeconomy Matters
Why trade novel feedstocks? Bio2X exists to accelerate Australia’s bioeconomy by solving the layered constraints that slow its growth. We’re not just innovating, we’re unlocking scalable, investable solutions that deliver:
-
Ocean health and Blue Economy resilience in the face of climate change
-
Food security through high-nutrition, low-carbon supply chains
-
Energy resilience with bio-based inputs for renewable systems
-
Income stability for primary producers via circular and value-added models
-
Regional revitalisation through new manufacturing and distributed industry
-
Global relevance by positioning Australia as a trusted bioeconomy hub
-
and more.....
We cross industries as we match contract producers and processing teams to those searching for novel ingredients and feedstock for biomaterials and biofuels. We connect R&D, infrastructure, primary industry, investment, and policy building the systems that make climate-positive growth possible.
Why we focus on Algae supply? For thousands of years, Indigenous Australians have drawn on the richness of the ocean, using kelp seaweeds and other algae not only as food but as medicine, containers, and cultural tools. In Tasmania, large kelp fronds were crafted into water carriers and baskets, while roasted kelp provided vital iodine in a landscape where soils lacked it. These practices reflected a deep respect for Country and the ecosystems that sustained life.
Today, that legacy inspires new pathways in the bioeconomy. The same kelp once used to nourish and carry water can now be valorised into sustainable packaging, functional nutrition, and carbon-sequestering solutions. By connecting traditional knowledge with modern innovation, kelp becomes more than a resource. It is a bridge between heritage and future, carrying forward Indigenous wisdom into contemporary industry.
Join us in shaping the future of health, food, energy, and industry.
More sales opportunities, more sourcing options. Newly connected bioeconomy partnerships and friendships.

Founder, Bio2X
Australian primary producers are well placed to play a bigger role in the global bioeconomy - some translation and coordination across industries, with smart ways to connect the high-value supply chains is needed to make that happen. We are confident that Bio2X can fill that strategic gap as a 'matchmaker' and activate cost effective, decentralised bio-refineries.

I have enjoyed the challenge of starting up Algae Pharm in 2019 and growing it to commercial scale for food-grade Australian marine algae. Applying manufacturing sector engineering processing, we have achieved Australia's first and only "all at one site" commercial scale algae production and pre-processing hub. From lab to harvest and drying to packaging - with acres of raceway ponds in the Australian outback. Next phase of market development of Australia's Algae is exciting to be a part of.

I am excited to help supply aquaculture hatcheries with quality natural culture, seedstocks and fish feed solutions that promote sustainable fish and ocean health. Bio2X provides a missing link to trade and build local algae supply chains for commercial use algae - avoiding imported or limited access products.

The bio economy matters because it’s where sustainability meets innovation. It creates new market opportunities, drives efficiency through technology, and aligns with UpScale’s mission to help businesses grow responsibly. Supporting it positions us at the forefront of the next major economic shift — building smarter, cleaner, and more resilient enterprises.

History of Bio2X
2007-2020
Industrial Refinery & Energy Engineering Project Delivery
Our team understands the role and relationships between UPSTREAM, MIDSTREAM and DOWNSTEAM product development from years working on mega-scale refinery processing and energy projects across industries spanning food production, hydrocarbons, chemicals, aquaculture and agriculture.
2020-2022
OCT Emissions Solutions
OCTES was formed to accelerate commercialisation of emissions reducing technology "solutions" across the spectrum of renewable energy, circularity and nature-based solutions. A portfolio of ventures and advisory projects were initiated.
2023-2025
Integrated within Deloitte Australia's Climate & Sustainability Team, our ventures and cross-industry networks were incubated while advising bioeconomy and circularity solutions for carbon intensive industries. Connected and invested via Pro Bono and In-Kind support for industry activation programs and strategic support for Seaweed and Algae Producers - lead to a strong professional network, projects and speaking events associated with Marine Bioproducts CRC, Seagriculture and Marine BioConnect Conference, Blue Economy CRC etc.

2025-
OCTES Ventures (Bio2X)
Driven by market innovators frustrated by limited access to commercial volumes of microalgae and seaweed, we created a biomass exchange to bridge buyers and sellers. The Bio2X proof‑of‑concept project is testing market fit by demonstrating value for all participants, and we welcome input on how it can help the bioeconomy secure reliable feedstock supply through listings and aggregation. Launches collaboration with Woods Group, Algae Pharm and other leading commercial producers - with OCTES team and long list of specialist Associates leading project delivery services, focused on offering onshore aquaculture raceway ponds demonstration and production trial projects at food-grade facilities in Goondiwindi, QLD. Preparing for full scaling of Bio2X and adjacent Ventures to assist market risk mitigation for algae and novel (hard to find and highly valued) biomass producers to connect to buyers and sellers. Also, an Algae Production Fellowships is being developed for launch in 2026. Plus more product development projects are on the horizon, leveraging access and supply for current revenue opportunities.
